Obtaining Your Certificate of Eligibility

A main part of the VA loan process as a prospective borrower is being able to prove that you are an eligible veteran or active service member, in order to participate in the program.  The one and only way to do that is by providing a Certificate of Eligibility (COE).  This is a formal document provided by the VA that shows the amount of available entitlement you have, if any, and is located in the center of the COE. The COE can be obtained by completing a Certificate of Eligibility Request Form.  There are three types of COE forms:

  • Regular / Full Time / Active Duty – VA Form 26-8320, COE for Loan Guaranty Benefits, or
  • Reservist / National Guard – VA Form 26-8320a, COE for Loan Guaranty Benefits (Reserves/National Guard)
  • Annotated for Unmarried Surviving Spouse

The form is available on the Veterans Administration website for download, and then can be mailed in.  If you choose to do it this way the approval process can take a few weeks.  The form can also be accessed through the VA’s Benefits portal.
Fortunately, a Pac Ally VA certified Military Housing Specialist can submit your COE request for you through the department’s Automated Certificate of Eligibility computer system.  In most cases, a Pac Ally VA certified Military Housing Specialist can obtain your COE in a matter of minutes.

The loan process can be started without your Certificate Of Eligibility.  Get prequalified today.  It only takes a few minutes and will get you started on the path towards a loan approval.  Call one of our certified Military Housing Specialist at 1.855.940.HOME to get started.
